Warner Electric has been building electromagnetic clutches and brakes since 1927, and its units have been fitted to UK production machinery for decades. Many of those still running carry series codes that have long since left the catalogue. Identifying them is most of the job.

2Nm to 950Nm – basic design, wrap spring and packaged units
Warner Electric clutches use an electrically energised coil to couple and release a drive, through either a friction face or tooth engagement. The basic design range covers eight sizes from 2.5 to 15.25 inches in flange or bearing mounting, standard or coupling type, normal or heavy duty.
Wrap spring clutches cover five sizes up to 665Nm for single-revolution, multi-revolution and controllable indexing. Packaged clutch-brake units are factory-assembled and aligned, from 7.5Nm to 150Nm.
5Nm to 3,200Nm – power-off fail-safe and power-on designs
Two groups. Electrically released brakes are spring-applied and engage on loss of supply, holding the load safely in position during a power or motor failure – eight sizes from 5Nm to 3,200Nm.
Power-on brakes energise to stop, for controlled stopping and cycling duties. Tension brakes cover web tension, wind and unwind applications from 1Nm to 800Nm.
Rectifiers, power supplies and control modules
The rectifiers, power supplies and control modules needed to switch and optimise a clutch or brake installation, including tension brake controls and sensors.
A replacement only saves time if it fits. Bore and shaft size, mounting, coil voltage, static torque and overall length all have to line up, or a straightforward swap turns into machining and adaptor plates. That’s why we start from the nameplate.

We match it or offer the nearest replacement. Where Warner still makes an equivalent, we quote the current unit. Where it doesn’t, we identify the closest suitable replacement and flag any differences in mounting, bore, voltage or torque before you order.

Warner Electric clutches and brakes are used throughout material handling: conveyors, palletisers, sortation equipment and hoists, where a drive needs to index, stop or hold reliably and repeatably.
Clutch-brake modules give packaging machines the speed, accuracy and repeatability they need, while wrap spring clutches handle precise indexing on filling, capping and carton-forming lines.
Electrically released brakes are spring-applied and engage when power is lost, making them the standard choice wherever a load has to be stopped and held safely during a power-off condition.
Warner Electric’s range has changed a great deal since the 1980s, and some series have no direct successor. When that happens we identify the closest current unit, confirm the critical dimensions against your existing installation, and tell you what differs – mounting centres, bore, voltage or torque – before anything is ordered. Where a drop-in isn’t possible, we’ll say so.

A clutch and a brake supplied as one factory-assembled and aligned unit. The clutch engages the drive, the brake stops it, and the two are interlocked so they never fight each other. They are widely used on packaging and indexing machinery where cycle rates are high and stop position matters.
