The FR-F800 is the fan and pump inverter in the Mitsubishi Electric FR series, succeeding the FR-F700. Advanced optimum excitation control cuts motor losses at part load, and dedicated functions such as dual PID, multi-pump control, cleaning, sleep and fire mode handle variable torque duty without an external controller.

FR-F800 Series overview

The FR-F800 runs from 0.75kW to 110kW on 200V and 0.75kW to 315kW on 400V at light duty, with a super light duty rating that takes the same units to 132kW and 355kW. FR-F842 units with a separate FR-CC2 converter cover 355kW to 560kW (630kW at super light duty), and the FR-F846 is an IP55 enclosed version from 0.75kW to 160kW for installation outside a panel. The two ratings, light duty (120% for 60 seconds) and super light duty (110% for 60 seconds), are set by parameter to suit the load.

Energy saving is built into the control. Optimum and advanced optimum excitation control adjust the motor flux to the load, and Mitsubishi Electric quotes motor efficiency around 30% higher than V/F control at light load. The FR-F800 also runs IPM permanent magnet motors, and its energy saving monitor shows the power saved. For water and wastewater, building services and process plant, it carries the functions those systems need: two PID loops with pre-charge, control of up to four pumps from one inverter, forward and reverse cleaning to clear blockages, sleep mode, load characteristic fault detection for clogged filters or broken belts, flying start and fire mode.

RS-485 with Modbus RTU and BACnet MS/TP is standard, and FR-F800-E models add Ethernet with BACnet/IP, Modbus/TCP and CC-Link IE Field Network Basic. Safe torque off to SIL3 and PL e, an EMC filter, a PLC function and a 24V DC control supply input are built in. For machinery that needs vector control or heavy duty ratings, see the FR-A800 Series.

Features and benefits

  • Wide power range – 0.75kW to 630kW on 200V and 400V supplies, including separated-converter units for large pumps and fans.
  • LD and SLD ratings – sized for variable torque loads, so a smaller inverter can run the motor.
  • Advanced optimum excitation control – adjusts motor flux to the load to reduce losses at part load.
  • PID and multi-pump control – two PID loops with pre-charge, and up to four pumps from one inverter.
  • Pump protection – forward and reverse cleaning, sleep mode, and load characteristic fault detection for clogged filters and broken belts.
  • Ride-through – flying start, restart after an instantaneous power failure and regeneration avoidance.
  • Fire mode – emergency drive keeps fans running during a fire.
  • Building and plant networks – BACnet MS/TP and Modbus RTU as standard; BACnet/IP and Modbus/TCP on FR-F800-E models.
  • Built in as standard – safe torque off (SIL3, PL e), EMC filter, PLC function and 24V DC control supply input.
  • IP55 version – the FR-F846 for mounting outside a panel, up to 160kW.
  • Long life – 10-year design life for cooling fans and capacitors, with life diagnosis and three maintenance timers.

FR-F800 Series FAQs

0.75kW to 630kW. At light duty, 200V models run to 110kW and 400V models to 315kW, with FR-F842 separated-converter units from 355kW to 560kW. The super light duty rating takes each size further, up to 630kW on the largest FR-F842. The IP55 FR-F846 runs to 160kW.

Overload capacity. Light duty allows 120% for 60 seconds at up to 50°C ambient; super light duty allows 110% for 60 seconds at up to 40°C. Fans and centrifugal pumps rarely need much overload, so super light duty lets a smaller inverter run the same motor.

Yes. Multi-pump control runs up to four pumps from one inverter, bringing pumps on and off to hold the PID set point.

Yes. BACnet MS/TP over RS-485 is standard on every model, and FR-F800-E models add BACnet/IP over Ethernet, alongside Modbus RTU and Modbus/TCP.

Yes. The FR-F800 has an emergency drive function, known as fire mode, which keeps the inverter running in an emergency such as a fire, for example on smoke extraction fans.

Yes. The FR-F846 is a 400V IP55 version from 0.75kW to 160kW, for installation outside an electrical panel.

Yes. Mounting dimensions are the same as the FR-F700 and FR-F700P except on some capacities (the FR-F720(P)-75K uses an attachment), the FR-A8TAT adaptor lets you reuse the old control terminal block, and most parameter numbers are unchanged.

The FR-F800 is built for variable torque loads, with fan and pump functions and energy-saving excitation control. The FR-A800 is the high performance inverter, with sensorless and closed-loop vector control and heavy duty ratings for machinery, hoists and positioning.
