The SW Series is the round body member of Motovario’s VSF worm range. It complements the NMRV with a compact, smooth, rounded aluminium casing, while using the same gearing, bearings, motor flanges and accessories. It was previously sold under the Spaggiari name. Double worm and helical pre-stage versions extend the ratio range.

SW Series overview

Motovario acquired Spaggiari Trasmissioni in 1998, and the SW Series carries on its round body worm gearbox design. There are seven sizes, SW030, SW040, SW050, SW063, SW075, SW090 and SW105, named by centre distance in millimetres, with output torque up to 630Nm, ratios from 5:1 to 100:1, radial loads up to 12,000N and motors up to 7.5kW.

Casings are die-cast aluminium alloy, finished in blue RAL 5010 epoxy-polyester powder, and every size is supplied filled with synthetic oil for life. The round body suits applications where a compact, smooth profile matters.

For higher ratios, SW+SW and SW+ISW double worm units and HA31 helical pre-stages are available. Inputs include IEC motor flanges, a solid input shaft (ISW) and a torque limiter version (SWL), and accessories include feet, torque arms, output flanges, output shaft kits, a cover and a double-extension input shaft. The Clean Duty version is built on the SW for washdown environments.

SW Series FAQs

Is the Motovario SW the same as a Spaggiari gearbox?

Yes, in origin. Motovario acquired Spaggiari Trasmissioni in 1998, and the SW Series continues the Spaggiari round body worm gearbox under the Motovario name.

What is the difference between the SW and the NMRV?

The casing shape. The SW has a compact round body; the NMRV has a square body and runs to larger sizes, up to 1,550Nm. The SW uses the NMRV gearing, bearings, motor flanges and accessories, so in the shared sizes the torque ratings are the same.

Will an SW replace another round body worm gearbox?

Send us the nameplate or a photo of the unit you are replacing, with its bore and mounting details, and we will check whether an SW fits as a direct replacement.

Do SW gearboxes need oil changes?

No. Every SW size is supplied filled with synthetic oil for life.

Is there a washdown version?

Yes. The Clean Duty Series is built on the SW, with chemically treated or painted casings, stainless steel shafts and fasteners, and food grade lubricant options.
