Efficient, quiet variable speed control for HVAC fans and pumps

0.75–250 kW · 200–600 V · IP20, IP55 & IP66

Invertek Drives logo

The Invertek Optidrive ECO is a variable frequency drive built for fans and pumps, from 0.75 to 250 kW. Energy optimisation, BACnet on board, fire mode and Optiflow multi-pump control are built in, so it runs air handling, building services and pumping stations efficiently and quietly without extra controllers.

About the Invertek Optidrive ECO

Fans and centrifugal pumps use far less power at reduced speed, so matching speed to demand is one of the simplest ways to cut running costs. The Optidrive ECO is designed for exactly that load. Invertek sets it up in two versions: HVAC and building services, and advanced pump control. Supplies covered:

  • 200–240 V single phase: 0.75–7.5 kW
  • 200–240 V three phase: 0.75–75 kW
  • 380–480 V three phase: 0.75–250 kW
  • 500–600 V three phase: 0.75–110 kW

IP20 drives mount in a control panel, in frame sizes 2 to 8 up to 250 kW. IP55 drives mount without a panel, on a wall or in a plant room, in frame sizes 4 to 8 up to 250 kW. IP66 (NEMA 4X) drives are outdoor rated, up to 22 kW at 400 V, with switched versions that add local controls.

For pump applications, Optiflow links up to five drives with RJ45 patch leads to run a pump station in duty, assist and standby without a separate controller. For general machinery, see the Optidrive E3 or, for demanding duties, the Optidrive P2. Our article on the benefits of VFDs explains where the energy savings come from.

Optidrive ECO features and benefits

  • Energy optimisation. Matches motor energy use to the fan or pump load, with built-in kWh meters to show the savings.
  • Optiflow multi-pump control. Up to five pumps in duty, assist or standby, with automatic changeover and equal run-time sharing.
  • Pump protection. Dry run protection, blockage detection and cleaning, pump stir, pipe fill/prime and burst pipe detection.
  • Fire mode. Bidirectional fire mode keeps smoke extraction fans running for as long as permitted.
  • Building services ready. BACnet MS/TP (BTL listed) and Modbus RTU on board, Hand/Auto control and drive-controlled bypass.
  • Belt break detection. Compares the load with a commissioning profile and warns of a slipping or broken belt.
  • Quiet running. Switching frequency up to 32 kHz, temperature-controlled cooling fans and resonance avoidance.
  • Built-in PID control. Holds pressure or temperature, with sleep mode and dual setpoints for low-demand periods.
  • Runs high-efficiency motors. Sensorless vector control for induction, permanent magnet, brushless DC, synchronous reluctance and line start PM motors.
  • Easy to commission. Multi-language display, Hand/Auto keypad option and Optistick Smart over Bluetooth and NFC.

Optidrive ECO FAQs

A fan or centrifugal pump needs much less power at reduced speed, so running it at the speed demand calls for, rather than at full speed with a damper or valve, cuts energy use. The ECO adds energy optimisation, sleep mode and dual setpoints, and shows consumption on its built-in kWh meters. Read more on how Optidrives cut energy use.

Optiflow is the ECO’s built-in multi-pump control. Up to five drives connect with RJ45 patch leads and run as one system in any duty, assist or standby arrangement, with automatic changeover and equal run time. If a pump or the master drive faults, the system reconfigures and keeps running.

Yes. Bidirectional fire mode keeps smoke extraction and stairwell pressurisation fans running for the longest permissible period, and fresh air fans can be reversed for smoke extraction.

They share the same range of sizes and enclosures. The ECO is set up for variable torque fan and pump loads, with HVAC and pump features and BACnet on board. The Optidrive P2 is for constant torque and demanding machinery, with higher overload, closed loop control and hoist mode.

Frame size 8, rated up to 250 kW at 400 V, in IP20 or IP55. It has a built-in DC link choke to reduce harmonics. Read more about the Optidrive frame size 8 range.
