Up to NEMA 449T Frame / 200 HP / 2, 4, 6, 8 Pole
ABB GP100 and GP100A motors are three-phase, totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) NEMA motors for general industrial duty: pumps, fans, compressors and conveyors. Both are NEMA Premium® efficient and suitable for inverter use.
The GP100 range came to ABB with the Siemens low voltage NEMA motor business in 2023. It continues under the ABB name, built at the ISO 9001 certified plant in Guadalajara, Mexico, which has made Siemens NEMA motors since 1982. Part numbers keep the familiar 1LE2 format, so an installed Siemens GP100 can usually be matched to its current ABB equivalent from the nameplate.
There are two versions, and the difference is the frame:
Both carry NEMA Premium® efficiency across the line, NEMA Design B torque characteristics and a 1.15 service factor. Choose the GP100 for larger ratings and heavier industrial settings, and the GP100A where weight matters. If the duty involves corrosive atmospheres, heavy contamination or a Division 2 hazardous area, a severe duty motor is the better fit.

The frame. The GP100 has a cast iron frame and covers 1–200 HP in NEMA frames 143T–449T. The GP100A has an aluminium frame and end shields and covers 1–20 HP in frames 143T–256T. Both are TEFC, NEMA Premium® efficient and suitable for inverter use. Choose the GP100A where weight matters and the GP100 for larger ratings or heavier duty.
It is the same product line. ABB acquired the Siemens low voltage NEMA motor business in 2023, and the GP100 continues under the ABB name from the same Guadalajara plant, with 1LE2 part numbers. Ratings and dimensions can change between generations, so check the current datasheet against the part number on the original nameplate.
Yes. GP100 and GP100A motors are suitable for inverter use to NEMA MG1 Part 31.4.4.2. They give a 20:1 speed range on variable torque loads such as fans and centrifugal pumps, and 4:1 on constant torque loads such as conveyors. If you need full torque at lower speeds, the severe duty SD100 offers a 20:1 constant torque range on 4-pole motors in frames 143T–365T.
A general purpose motor suits most continuous-duty pumps, fans, compressors and conveyors in reasonably clean environments. Choose a severe duty motor where the motor faces corrosive atmospheres, heavy dust or moisture, a Division 2 hazardous area, or a specification that calls for IEEE 841. Severe duty motors also carry a longer ABB warranty: 36 months, against 18 for the GP100.
NEMA motors are designed for 60 Hz supplies. Many GP100 and GP100A ratings carry a dual 60/50 Hz nameplate, but output, speed and voltage at 50 Hz differ from the 60 Hz rating, so check the datasheet for the specific motor before installing it on a 50 Hz supply.
